Bagamoyo
Experience Serengeti from above
Conquer the highest peak in Africa
75 kms North of Dar es Salaam, the town of Bagamoyo was once the main port and capital of German East Africa. Its name means "bury my heart" and it was the main link of caravans of slaves and ivory traveling on foot from Lake Tanganyika to Zanzibar, from where they were shipped off to various countries.

Bagamoyo has been influenced by the Arab and Indian traders, German colonialists and missionaries.

Today, a quiet village with a few German colonial buildings still standing, Bagamoyo is a center for dhow sailboat building. Visitors can see the Kaole ruins, where there are remnants of two mosques and several tombs
; The Roman Catholic Mission, the oldest church in East and Central Africa and the Bagamoyo Art College where students from all over the world come to learn the traditional Tanzanian art. Also worth visiting is the German Boma, the official residence of the German governor, the German hanging place, Mwanamakuka cemetery and German cemeteries.
